This Raksha Bandhan, the threads of love ended the 45 year old enmity between two families from village Dongarpura of Bhind district that has claimed six lives so far.
Bhind in Chambal division of the state is even today infamous for criminal activities. The tradition of an eye for an eye persists in this once dacoit infested district. The enmity continues for generations and this has ruined several families and claimed many lives.
But this Raksha Bandhan, the threads of love ended the 45 year old enmity between the families of Chimman Singh and Lalji Singh from village Dongarpura that has claimed six lives and rendered 11 people physically challenged after they received gunshot injuries. Besides 12 people of both families are in jail but all efforts to end the enmity have not bore fruit.
The hostility between the two families started in 1972 when Chimman Singh Bhadoria’s father Suba Singh accused Lalji Singh Bhadoria’s father Sadhu Singh Bhadoria of stealing a gold object.
Sadhu Singh Bhadoria kept Rs 25,000 at a village temple which was taken away by Suba Singh. After this Suba Singh’s two sons died suddenly. Suba Singh felt his sons died because he had taken away the money. This sowed the seeds of enmity in the two families.
On July 26 the Bhind district court sentenced 12 people belonging to both the families, including Lalji Singh and Chimman Singh, to seven years in jail on charge of attempted murder.
On Raksha Bandhan the sisters of the incarcerated members of both families, along with other family members, reached Bhind district court to tie rakhis to their brothers.
Everyone on jail premises became emotional as tears flowed down the eyes of both brothers and sisters. Sisters of both families, while tying rakhis to their brothers, asked how many more lives this enmity would claim. They asked whether they will be able to tie rakhi to their brothers next year as well.
Seeing this both the families vowed to end the enmity. Lalji Singh and Chimman Singh took the pledge in the temple that they would end the enmity and become friends and both the families would be on friendly terms from now. Over 100 members of both the families were present in the jail.
