It was an interesting experience for 400-odd rural women from Sehore Janpad Panchayat as they converged for a special show at a theatre in Sehore town on Saturday morning and watched Toilet-Ek Prem Katha – a movie based on eradication of open defecation.

After watching the movie – a first time experience in a theatre for many of them – the women who work as motivators for Swachch Bharat campaign – took oath of renewed push to the drive against open defecation.

Sehore collector Tarun Pithode and Zilla Panchayat chief executive officer Kedar Singh were present along with MLA Sudesh Rai who made special contribution to the event.

The women said that they would now work with renewed vigor to motivate people to construct and use toilets and give up open defecation. These women have already played a big role in their respective areas to promote open defecation free zones, Swachch Bharat Mission in-charge Vikas Waghade said.

He said that a decision has now been taken to screen the movie at every village by using projectors in presence of local officials who would explain the importance of sanitation and motivate the people to desist from open defecation.

Kedar Singh said that these women made good efforts to desist people from defecating in the open by explaining them about the ill effects of such practice and because of their support, many villages in district turned open defecation free. This movie would further help them to motivate the people to maintain sanitation at their homes and surroundings.

The women were escorted to and from their home and the arrangement of vehicles was made by the district panchayat. One of the women, Reena said that it was first time that she saw a movie in the theatre. Urmila said it was a good movie that gave message of cleanliness.

NGO Samarthan also supported the special screening event by motivating the women to watch the movie.
