Man saved newborn abandoned Baby, Appreciated by Mumbai Police

26-year old Hemant Sharma was taking a stroll near Bhandup, when he noticed the bundled-up newborn crying after being abandoned in the closed auto rickshaw.

The alert resident immediately attempted to contact the local police. However, he failed to get the authorities’ attention.

Despite of his failure to reach to the police the man has successfully saved the life of a 3-5-day old baby girl, who was found abandoned in an auto rickshaw. The man’s prompt actions earned him a lot of praise from the Mumbai police, as well as, Twitterati.

Not knowing what to do and noticing that the baby was increasingly shivering, Sharma, who goes by the name ‘Aman’ on Twitter, took to the micro blogging site to seek help. He tweeted, “Found this 3 to 5 day year old kid in closed auto. Please help me guys. I’ve no idea what to do? #help.” Respondents quickly brought the situation to the attention of the Mumbai police Twitter handle.

The social media team of the Mumbai police guided Sharma to the Kanjumarg east police, where the baby was taken into safety. She was later transferred to the Sion hospital for a medical check-up. The police also initiated the process to trace the child’s parents.
