Jubin: Taken in the depth of voice

Salman decides to retain Jubin’s version in his upcoming film

Singer Jubin Nautiyal is on cloud nine. After his rendition of Ek Vaari Aa, which was retained over Arijit Singh’s voice in the Sushant Singh starrer, Raabta, Jubin has scored another edge. This time it is Salman Khan and music composer, Pritam, who have chose the Kaabil singer’s soulful voice over another voice for a number in Tubelight.

Apparently the song Tinka Tinka Dil Mera, which comes at a very emotional juncture in the film, was already recorded in another voice for the music label but director Kabir Khan and Salman, were not quite convinced that it reflected the intensity of emotions. That’s when music composer Pritam, decided to rope in Jubin Nautyal, who had last rendered the Zindagi Kuch To Bata number in Bajrangi Bhaijaan for Salman. When he eventually rendered it, they were both taken in by the depth of his voice. Recalls Jubin, “It was replete with emotions and reminded me of Zindagi Kuch To Bata. I could feel the emotions and I rendered it as I would have felt it. Kabir Khan and Salman-bhai felt that I had succeeded in bringing out the right emotions. I later learnt that they had decided to retain it in the film, though it was recorded initially in another voice.” What was overwhelming though was Salman’s reaction to the song, “Salman got very emotional about this song and patted me on my back for taking it to the next level. I am glad that my voice reached Salman and touched him in a way. More importantly he is a big star and getting to work him is all I can ask, after having worked for four years in the industry.”

The singer who has now found a place for himself in Salman’s coterie is also said to have been roped in by Pritam for Salman’s next, Tiger Zinda Hai but he does not want to comment on it yet, “It could be yes or no. You might hear my voice in Tiger Zinda Hai but the last moment you cannot rule out the possibility of someone else coming and doing a better job on a song,” he says. Jubin does not feel there is anything wrong in it, “With every team, the best is what works for the film. The film is the king and the songs, music, actors and director work towards complimenting it. It was a collective call,” he says.

The Dehradun born singer is now working on his second single, Teri Manzilen, for which he recently shot a video in Trinidad. He feels that the single is distinct from any of the tracks recorded so far in independent music, “Usually people make a very groovy song and write very simple and down-to-earth lyrics but I have rendered a dance track where I have some very beautiful poetry. It is a poetic rendition written by Mudassar Aziz in a dance mood that is inspiring and my fans will love it,” he says.
