They say a woman is like a tea bag – you can’t tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water. On this International Women’s day we decided to take this further and spoke to 5 exemplary women who are at the top of their game in different fields and despite various challenges and hurdles they have passed the test of success with flying colours. We ask them how they play superwoman and try unearthing their secret mantras for success.
Celebrity Tarot card Reader and Feng Shui consultant Monika Chawla Monika Chawla is the Director at Spirit and SoulKraft-A Karmic Centre for Healing and Learning. She has been practicing internationally for over a decade and is also a columnist with Hindustan Times.
As a Tarot Card Reader, she has clients from all walks of life and from the ludicrous to the sublime she gets all sorts of cases. We ask her how she deals with diverse strata so seamlessly. She says “One size doesn’t fit all. Understanding the delicate nature and uniqueness of each case unique I use a combination of techniques such as Divination, Mirroring and counseling to help them piece their lives together.”
One success mantra that keeps her going?
“You can’t pour from an empty cup. So above all take care of yourself and remember you deserve the same love you give so selflessly to others,” she quips.
Despite her career being a huge success, as a woman Monika believes that her biggest achievement has been to have raised two emotionally balanced, mentally informed and socially responsible daughters who are an asset to society. And her biggest reward? “There’s nothing more fulfilling than helping other people heal and discover their true potential.” says Monika.
A clear visionary, way ahead of her time, Dr. Blossom Kochhar is the pioneer of aromatherapy in India and she manufactures her own range of aromatherapy-based beauty products under the brand name ‘Blossom Kochhar Aroma Magic’.
Being an empowered woman she strongly believes each woman should be filled with confidence, sincerity and passion to fulfill her dreams. We ask her what the biggest was challenge while setting up her company. Says Blossom “To make people understand aromatherapy and how to use the essential oils was a task. Not many people back then knew about Aromatherapy. It required a lot of effort and hard work to create awareness and I had to be very patient, retain my self-confidence and take care of myself. “
How does she get so much done in a day’s work we wonder? Says Blossom “We have to balance everything; I put them all in compartments, prioritize and then give time to each important part of my life. Like in the morning I take out time for myself by doing yoga, reading, listen to music, it’s me time. Then I go to office and try to attend to every person at my workplace and after 5:30 it is my family time. So to have a peaceful life always compartmentalize everything”, she advises.
Dr. Geetika Mittal Gupta
Margaret Thatcher rightly said, “If you want something said, ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman!” The dictum stands true to the core for Dr. Geetika Mittal Gupta who is the director and founding pillar of Isaac-International Skin and Anti Ageing Centre. She has singlehandedly grown the clinic from strength to strength within a short span of time.
Dr. Geetika Mittal Gupta is a celebrity cosmetic dermatologist and a member of the Anti Aging society of India and the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists and the Cosmetic Dermatology Society of India to name a few.
She comes from an illustrious background and is married into a reputed family as well. But it will be incorrect to assume that she achieved everything without any struggles. Just like every other successful entrepreneur she had to innovate and hone her skills.
Says Dr. Geetika, “My journey in the field of aesthetics and dermatology has so far been both enriching and challenging. I started my career in dermatology 10 years ago when while working I realized the gap between the clinical and cosmetic derma. Nowadays, clients are looking for advanced cosmetic dermatology-based treatments that require full comfort, expertise, and confidentiality.”
From struggling to earn Rs 25,000 to a turnover of Rs 200Cr meet the women at the helm of affairs and backbone of the cosmetic brand Nature’s Essence Mrs. Neelam Nanda. What started on a dining table at home is now a company with a pan-India distribution of its beauty products.
Working towards improvement since the last 4 decades, she is actively empowering women all around her. The companies have women working and growing from the top-management posts, right to all the peripherals.
She’s the director at Nature’s essence and a grandmother with a beautiful family. Is it more difficult to be a woman in today’s day and era and do you reminisce the good old days? She promptly responds with “No. I thoroughly enjoyed each phase and decade.” We ask her what her advice she’d like to share with young women and here’s what she said “Be career oriented but don’t neglect your homes, family and children because of that. It is a part of your life too.”
Dr. Chiranjiv Chhabra
Dr. Chiranjiv Chhabra storms the erstwhile bastion of derma-physiology spiking it with technically evolved medicines and therapies. She gave shape to her dreams in the form of Skin Alive clinic in 1997 with just one branch at Panchsheel Park. Now with her hard work she has added 7 more clinics in the NCR and Chandigarh. Married early she never gave up on her education and learnt the precarious work life balance quite early. “Balance requires certain amount of planning but with time it becomes a part of your routine and depending on the urgency, one must prioritize. Especially pressing matters related to children,” says Dr.Chiranjiv.
She has courageously carved her own path but what makes this juggling act possible for this uber successful doctor and where does she derive her strength from? “My biggest support is my husband and family. They have been with me through thick and thin and have had a huge impact on my journey. A woman has to rely on her inner strength and treat the support of others as a bonus.”
Be it the workplace or the family, she stresses on the importance of standing up for oneself when appropriate. Says Dr. Chiranjiv, “A woman should think through her heart and act through her mind.”
