Shilpa Shetty approaches Court To Reject Plea Against Her Discharge In 2007 Richard Gere Kiss Case

At a 2007 AIDS awareness event in Delhi, Hollywood actor Richard Gere kissed Shilpa Shetty on both cheeks, sparking outrage among some sections that said the act was ‘obscene’.

A complaint was registered against the actress at Alwar Police station. The complainant had alleged that Shilpa did not protest while being kissed by the Hollywood star. Now, as per the latest development, in this case, Shilpa has sought dismissal of the plea-challenging the magistrate’s order of discharging her in an ‘obscenity’ case.

In her reply, Shilpa Shetty claimed to be the victim of malicious proceedings. She also alleged that she faced harassment at the hands of the complainant and that she as an artist had always acted responsibly in public. The actress also accused the complainant of approaching the court just for cheap publicity.

Reportedly, the actress through her lawyer Prasant Patil has asked the court to reject the plea which challenges the January order of a Ballard Pier, Mumbai, magistrate court. In April, police approached the sessions court against the magistrate’s order and stated in its plea that the “magistrate had erred in discharging Shilpa and that her act in kissing or allowing to be kissed in a public place amounted to obscenity.”

For the unversed, in January this year, Metropolitan Magistrate Ketaki Chavan discharged Shilpa Shetty from the case. Back then, the court not only called her a ‘victim’ but also gave her a clean chit. “I am satisfied that the charge against the present accused i.e. Shilpa Shetty is groundless,” a part of the judgment read. However, later, the Alwar police challenged the judgment.

On the work front, Shilpa recently made her comeback to films with Sabbir Khan’s directorial Nikamma. She will next be seen in Rohit Shetty’s upcoming cop drama which will revolve around Indian Police Force. The show also stars Sidharth Malhotra and Vivek Oberoi in the lead roles.
