Both the BJP government and the party organisation are ill at ease on account of party president Amit Shah’s forthcoming visit to the Madhya Pradesh.

The most startling thing is that Arvind Menon, who was removed from the post of state organisation secretary following complaints, is holding the meetings to review preparations for Shah’s visit. It is unclear whether Menon has been sent by Shah or especially called by Shivraj.

The farmer stir in the state forced both the BJP organisation and the government on the back foot. Shah had earlier visited the state to indirectly review the functioning of the government but this time the things are different.

The central leadership could not remove Shivraj although he came under sustained attack from the Opposition due to Vyapam and other scams. The main reason behind this is that BJP registered thumping victory in most of the by-polls.

Besides in BJP there are very few detractors of Shivraj who are in a position to speak or act against him. Therefore all the reports of the government and the organisation were in support of Shivraj and the central leadership was in no position to intervene. However the farmer agitation exposed the weaknesses of the government and the organisation.

However Shah is planning to hold review at every level. The central leadership appointed Vinay Sahasrabuddhe as in-charge and Suhas Bhaghat as state organization general secretary to control state organisation and government, but both the leaders couldn’t exercise their influence.

Political pundits are taken aback as Menon is holding the review meetings instead of Sahasrabuddhe and Suhas Bhagat. Menon is a confidant of Shivraj and it is due to this reason that he was removed from the post. Now the question being asked is whether he has been called by Shah or Shivraj.

There could be many implications of Menon holding the review meets. Analysts feel it could be an attempt to stifle the voice of dissent against the government and the organisation. Attempts would be made not to allow any disgruntled leader to hold direct talks with Shah.

There are many senior leaders who are not happy with the government or the organisation but they are maintaining silence on account of political equations.

Attempts are also being made to prevent the lower level functionaries from speaking against the government during Shah’s visit. The government would mainly be reviewed during meeting with ministers. Besides feedback from MPs and MLAs would also be obtained.
