A twitter campaign has been initiated to press for release of Jitendra Arjunwar, a youth from Madhya Pradesh, who has been lodged in a jail in Pakistan.

Arjunwar, who hails from Seoni, had strayed into Pakistani territory a few years ago. After his arrest, he was sentenced and jailed. However, he is yet to be released.

Activist Abid Hussain Syed started the campaign on Sunday. The tweets under the hashtag #HelpJitendra gained attention as people from both the countries started re-tweeting them.

Renowned journalist and activist Bina Sarwar also joined the campaign. Though he has completed his jail term, he still remains in Pakistani prison. People who joined the campaign tagged top politicians from both the countries.

The politicians were urged to press for his release. Leaders in Pakistan and India were urged to expedite the process of his safe release from Pakistan. Arjunwar belongs to an extremely poor family. He was arrested in the year 2013.

He served a year in the jail. But there has been no news as yet about when he would be allowed to return. His family in Madhya Pradesh has been running from pillar to post but have not been communicated in this regard.

Abid Hussain Syed has earlier been part of several such campaigns. In a recent incident, he had successfully got a critically ill woman, visa on medical grounds for treatment. He says that the campaign would be continued till Arjunwar gets freed and returns home.
