The horrific gang rape with a college student in the State capital has finally stirred the government to take action.

Axe has fallen on half-a-dozen police officials and personnel for their shocking insensitivity and inaction after the victim had reached the police, initially.

The Town Inspectors (TIs), heading Habibganj, MP Nagar and GRP police stations have been suspended. The girl—daughter of a police couple had gone from one police station to another, but her FIR was not registered for 24 hrs.

Ravindra Yadav, Sanjay Bais and Mohit Saxena were the TIs of these police stations respectively. Besides, two more junior rank officials—Ramnath Tekam and Bhawani Uikey have been suspended.

The City Superintendent of Police (CSP), Kulwant Singh, has been removed and has been attached to Police Headquarters (PHQ). This action was taken after Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan pulled up top brass of police.

Chouhan asked DGP RK Shukla to take stern action. On the basis of preliminary probe, the suspension orders were issued. The victim, a 19-year-old civil services aspirant was returning from coaching class on the night October 31 when four men caught hold of her, forcibly took her to a desolate place near the Habibganj Railway Station and raped.

The chief minister has said that the case would be tried in fast track court so that there is speedy trial. Three accused have presented before court. Six teams have been formed to nab the fourth accused. Earlier, four people were detained but only three people were identified as accused. He accepted that the victim’s kin had caught an accused and brought him to police.

The girl’s parents who are also police officials took her to police station for filing FIR but they were forced to run from one police station to another to get the case registered.

IPS officer Makrand Deuskar told media persons that a Special Investigation Team headed by Sudhir Laad would hold inquiry. The team would submit its report to the court. The team would be assisted by FSL (forensic science laboratory) teams and prosecution officials.
