Several names had come up as BJP drew up its list, including former state minister Jairam Thakur, Ajay Jamwal, Satpal Satti, etc for the post of Deputy Chief Minister.
But, Jairam Thakur is the top-runner amongst other and favorite with-in the top bosses of the party. Jairam also seems to be the top choice as Amit Shah announced during a public rally that Jairam Thakur will be the most important person in the Government after Dhumal. Moreover, seeing the recent trend, the saffron party is coming up with the name of Deputy Chief Minister in the state so that the Modi-Shah duo can hold off the State Government directly or indirectly. In Uttar Pradesh, where the party named its dark horse Yogi Aditya Nath as its Chief Minister, they placed Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma, both organizational men as his Deputy. Similarly, in Gujarat where party has been in power from last twenty two years and is the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shah, has declared Nitinbhai Patel as its Deputy CM candidate. Dhumal not being the organizational man and also not the favorite within the Delhi circle of leaders makes the ground for BJP to choose a Deputy in the hills too. Jairam Thakur, a naïve leader, four-time MLA from Himachal, a former ABVP activist and a known name within the Sangh comes as an obvious choice.
