An alleged criminal who was on the run for more than one year after robbing a manager and another employee from a wine shop in Mumbra has finally been arrested by the crime branch officials of the Thane city police, the police said on Friday.
ACP Crime Mukund Hatote told this correspondent that it was on the night of July 16,2016 while the victims were returning home after closing the shop they were waylaid by four accused who relieved them of cash totalling Rs. 11 lakhs. The foursome attacked the victims and caused them injuries while they were on their way to Diva station and fled with the cash bag.
The Mumbra police had then registered an offence under sections 394,120B rw 34 of the IPC and arrested two persons then itself after a couple of days. The other two were at large since then.
Acting on a tip off that one of the absconding in the crime was to come to a location near the Shiv Sena shakha at Ambernath the police team of crime branch laid a trap near the tea stall and nabbed him as he arrived there in the morning at about 7.30 a.m. on Wednesday the police said.
The police gave his name as Ashish Pandurang Devre, 27 a resident of Ambernath east the police added.
The police also said that he was wanted in another case udner sections 395 and 397 registered with the Talasari police station in 2016 and changes under the MCOCA had been slapped on him and he was absconding in that case too.
The further probe into the case is being carried out by the crime branch officials it was stated.
The fourth accused is yet to be named the police added.
