Names of 5 MP cities was already announced, number goes up to 7.

Satna and Sagar figured in the third list of smart cities that was announced on Friday. Now the number of cities in MP that have been selected for transformation to smart cities, has gone up to 7.

Earlier, Bhopal, Indore and Jabalpur were announced in first phase of 20 cities picked up for transformation while Ujjain and Gwalior were announced in second slot. The number of Indian cities included in the Smart Cities Mission now goes up to 90.

As many as 20 cities will now compete for the remaining 10 slots. Thirty cities are part of the latest list of smart cities released by the government on Friday, with Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, Bengaluru, Allahabad, Aligarh and Gangtok among the notable mentions.

The 30 cities include Thiruvananthapuram, Naya Raipur, Rajkot, Amravati, Patna, Karimnagar, Muzaffarpur, Puducherry, Gandhinagar, Srinagar, Sagar, Karnal, Satna, Bengaluru, Shimla, Dehradun, Tiruppur, Pimpri Chinchwad, Bilaspur, Pasighat, Jammu, Dahod, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tiruchirapalli, Jhansi, Aizwal, Allahabad, Aligarh and Gangtok.

UAD Minister Maya Singh, Home minister Bhupendra Singh, and Panchayat Minister Gopal Bhargav expressed happiness over Satna and Sagar which named in third list of smart cities. They thanked Union Government as well as UAD Minister Venkaiya Naidu and congratulated people of respective cities residents for it.

UAD Minister Maya Singh said, “ Investment of over Rs 20,000 crore will be done in MP in the next 5 years. Besides, Rs 63 crore has also been given as consolation prize to MP. There is provision of Rs 300 crore for other cities transformation into development.”

Bhargava said, “With transformation Sagar into Smart city, many facilities like electricity, water, sanitation, e –governance, IT, connectivity, transportation, solid waste management, will be available.”

Home minister Bhupendra Singh said, “It has added another feather in dignity of not only Sagar but also Bundelkhand. Singh also thanked union government for it. “

In Bhopal, succumbing to pressure from citizens against the proposed location of the Bhopal Smart City project, the state government shifted the project from Shivaji Nagar and Tulsi Nagar area to North Tatya Tope Nagar. Citizens of Bhopal were agitating against the site, which covers a huge green area. They have mainly been opposing the felling of 30,000-40,000 trees. The new site has 280 hectares of land, while Shivaji Nagar Smart City was planned on 332.98 acres. Shivaji Nagar area was identified for Smart City “in consultation with citizens.

Bhopal and Indore have redevelopment projects while Jabalpur has retro fitting as well has redevelopment projects. A local corporator (Municipal Corporation) Amit Sharma had opposed the projects on the grounds that the Bhopal Smart City plan should be for the entire city and not for just one locality. Lok Sewa Manch, an organization of citizens, has protested against the plan at various occasions.
