Following the pandemic pause, IIFA is back with a bang. The weekend leading up to the much-anticipated award show began with a star-studded evening of music, fashion, and entertainment. On June 3, the International Indian Film Academy announced the winners in nine technical categories. On the fashion front, renowned designers Falguni and Shane Peacock showcased their beautiful and stunning creations at the NEXA fashion show. Let us walk you through the night, recapping the wins, performers, and, of course, the green carpet.
The IIFA green carpet was packed with celebrities, as predicted. Salman Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Shahid Kapoor, Ananya Pandey, Sara Ali Khan, Nora Fatehi, Tiger Shroff, Bobby Deol, and Lara Dutta, among others, graced the carpet with their stylish appearance. Fardeen Khan also made an unexpected appearance on the red carpet.
The night was memorable for Vicky Kaushal’s starred film ‘Sardar Udham Singh,’ which took home three awards in the categories of Cinematography, Editing, and Special Effects. Following closely behind was Sara Ali Khan’s ‘Atrangi Re,’ which received two awards, one for the choreography of the song ‘Chaka Chak’ and the other for the background soundtrack. ‘Shershaah’ and ‘Thappad’ both received one prize for Screenplay and Dialogue.
‘Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior’ received the prize for Sound Design, while ’83’ received the award for Sound Mixing.
Farah Khan and Aparshakti Khurana were the hosts for the evening. Guru Randhawa, Honey Singh, Neha Kakkar, Zahrah S Khan, Dhvani Bhanushali, Asees Kaur, Ash King, Devi Sri Prasad, and Tanishk Bagchi all delivered thrilling performances on the IIFA stage. The music maestros rang in the night with magnificent performances that captivated the crowd.
The spectacular evening took place inside Etihad Arena, Abu Dhabi’s largest state-of-the-art indoor entertainment arena, which is part of the Yas Bay Waterfront on Yas Island. This year, IIFA will air solely on one particular channel.
The IIFA Awards’ grand finale will take place on June 4, 2022, and will be hosted by Salman Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, and Maniesh Paul, according to the IIFA’s official website. Stars such as Nora Fatehi, Sara Ali Khan, Ananya Panday, Divya Khosla Kumar, Kartik Aaryan, Tiger Shroff, and Shahid Kapoor will also appear.
