Anud Singh Dhaka recalls working with Irrfan Khan

Mumbai: Anud Singh Dhaka is recently on cloud nine, as his first film as lead, Janhit Mein Jaari alongside Nushrratt Bharuchha is all set to release on 10 June 2022. Hailing from Bhopal, Anud has been a part of projects like Chhichhore, Super 30, Taj Mahal 1989, Love J Action, and many more.
In a recent interview, the actor spoke about his excitement, his take on importance of sex education, fond memories with Irrfan Khan, and much more.

Sharing about how does it feel as the film is all set to hit the theatres in a few weeks, Anud said, “As of now I am totally oblivious and distracting myself from this fact so that I do not feel the jitters. I don’t wish to feel these emotions now as everything is imaginary. I want to stay away from the worries as things are erratic, and obviously a day prior the feeling will be different.”

The actor also recalled his struggling days and said, “I hail from a middle-class family from Bhopal where I was not even allowed to watch TV. So in my case, I would say that for me, being an actor is an actor for rebellion. My family was quite conservative, and since acting was considered wrong for them, they were not happy with my decision of getting into this profession. Also, I was scared because I had no exposure or guidance. Infact, in lieu of getting into acting, I enrolled in an Architecture college as they had filmmaking subject. But, my decision turned out to be wrong. Surprisingly, my family members didn’t even call me once after the trailer of the film out.”

He further shared how he dealt with rejections. He averred, “After auditioning for a film, I waited for 6-7 months for the response. But to my surprise, later when that film was out, I got to know that I was rejected. I think normally a person faces 50 to 60 rejections in his life, but we face that in a month. Sometimes after giving an audition, and sometimes as soon as we enter the room. But eventually, after a time you realise that- Rejection is not important, seizing the opportunity is.”

Before venturing into acting, the actor worked as an Assistant Director in Qarib Qarib Single, which starred late actor Irrfan Khan. Recalling fond memories with him, Anud quipped, “Irrfan Sir loved me a lot, and I miss him even today. Initially, I shied away from being or calling myself an actor. But it was he who encouraged me to become an actor. After which, I never looked back and started giving auditions and took up work that came my way. So, even if you don’t wish to, you get to learn a lot from him.”

Janhit Mein Jaari marks first film of Anud as lead. Talking about what made him choose this film and seconding his thoughts on the topic, Anud quipped, “This is a necessary subject as overpopulation is an overlooked issue in our country. Because doing sex for men is nothing, but it is painful and emotionally disturbing for a woman. Also, the best part about this film is, a relevant message is conveyed with a pinch of humour. Because of which audience will comprehend it rightly.”

The actor also shared his thoughts on use of condom being considered as a taboo in rural areas. He said, “It’s erroneous that using a condom is taboo, but having unprotected sex is not. Certain taboo’s should prevail in society, as difference in opinions is what forms a society and shapes our culture. Also, because of this taboo, women bear the brunt of harmful effects of unprotected sex. Like for example, the have to go through multiple abortions, because of which some women even lose their lives. Rather than using a condom, side effects of abortion, unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases should be considered as a taboo.”
